Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah had a private meeting last night with Xi Jinping, the Chinese official who manages the Hong Kong and Macau affairs, ahead of meeting with president Hu Jintao and premier Wen Jiabao today.

Mr Ho arrived in Beijing yesterday and was received by deputy director of the State Council, Hong Kong and Macau Affairs, Chen Zuoer.

The Chief Executive later met with Xi Jinping, member comrade of the nine-member Politburo Standing Committee, who was named by the Communist Party of China last month at a key five-yearly meeting as the mainland’s principle man on Macau and Hong Kong affairs.

Mr Xi is the heir to vice-president of People’s Republic of China, Zeng Qinghong, to take over the position in-charge of affairs of the two SARs.

Edmund Ho, who will be flying back to Macau tonight, is meeting with China’s premier Wen Jiabao first in the afternoon, followed by president Hu Jintao, in the capital city’s central political zone, Zhongnanhai.

The annual meetings will see the Chief Executive report to the national leaders about his policy blueprint for the next fiscal year and an evaluation of his work over the past year.

A press conference will be held following the two closed door meetings at the Macau SAR Office in Beijing.
