The 37-year-old who reportedly cheated two of his girlfriends out of 360,000 patacas was arrested by the Judiciary Police on Monday after a year of hide-and-seek.

The two victims went to report to police together in February last year that between April and December 2006, the man surnamed Ung, cheated them out of 300,000 patacas and 60,000 patacas respectively and then lost his whereabouts, police spokesperson Chan Kin Hong said.

The first woman said the suspect convinced her that he had a very good connection with the local fish wholesalers and hotels, and that he could purchase the live produce at lower prices and then gain profit by selling them to hotel restaurants.

She then passed him 300,000 patacas after which the man disappeared.

The second victim told police the man promised to help her sell her car and then used the money and her credit card to buy a new one.

The man disappeared with 40,000 patacas he received from the car sale and also spent 20,000 patacas on another purchase paid by her credit card.

The suspect had a history of being charged with fraud, Mr Chan said.

The 37-year-old, who police had been looking for during the past year, was found Thursday in the Wong Chiu district.

He was sent to the Public Prosecutions Office and will be charged with fraud.
