The woman who was robbed in a residential building in Travessa da Corda yesterday received an operation after having been injured by a knife and cannot yet give testimony to police.

The Public Security Police received a report at about 1 pm that a suspected robbery happened in Cheong Hang Building near Rua da Barca.

A woman with injuries to her hands and neck was found lying on the ground of the second floor and was sent to the hospital for an immediate operation, police spokesman Pun Sio Tong said.

A 34-year-old man was later caught in the courtyard on the same floor.

The suspect admitted to police that he had followed the victim to the building from Ponte 16 casino and robbed her on the staircases with a knife, Mr Pun said.

The mainland suspect then allegedly attacked the woman with the knife when she resisted and snatched her handbag containing 2,700 patacas of cash, a watch and a bracelet.

Mr Pun said the man came to Macau the day before and police suspected that he had gambled away all his money before allegedly robbing the woman.

No identification document was found in the victim’s handbag and therefore her background is still unknown.
