Three contestants were selected from the semi-final in Kam Pek Cultural Centre yesterday to represent Macau in the 5th Hong Kong IT Image Girls final contest at the end of the month.

The competition will be held on August 23 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Each city of Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Zhongshan will send three contestants to the final to compete for the title of ambassador for the 2008 Hong Kong Computer and Communications Festival (HKCCF) between August 22 and August 25.

Nine contestants aged between 19 and 25 showed off their talents and IT knowledge during the Macau division semi-final last night.

The judging panel comprised of legislator Lao Pun Lap, director of the Telecom Regulation Bureau Tou Veng Keong, as well as representatives from the Chamber of Macau Computer Industry.

After two hours of performances, the Macau championship went to Liu Su Wun, first runner-up Lin Dik Ka, and second runner-up Kou Hio Tung.

The annual HKCCF, organised by the Chamber of Hong Kong Computer Industry, was launched in 2004 in response to the rapid growth of computer and information technology and also the need of opening up new business opportunities.

In 2007, over 400 booths were set up during the expo and HK$160 million business turnover had been generated, according to the HKCCF official website.

In addition, more than 350,000 international visitors including from mainland China, Southeast Asia and America had gone to the four day exhibition.

The festival this year will continue to follow the global IT trend with special focus on digital life, digital home and digital entertainment, the website said.
