The land deal approved by jailed ex-secretary Ao Man Long involving a parcel near Rua de Fernão Mendes Pinto in Taipa was voided by the SAR government yesterday.

The dispatch by Secretary for Transport and Public Works Lau Si Io in the Official Gazette declared the land contract as “null”, as “the Court of Final Appeal has proved that the concession procedure of the 3,633 square metre land parcel was involved in the former transport and public works secretary’s illegal acts of bribe-taking.”

It was the first land concession voided by the government since Ao was sentenced for 27 years in jail.

The 3,633 square metre land parcel was granted by Ao in August 2006 to Chong Ying Property Investment Company which gave a 50 square metre land piece in Travessa do Buzio to the government in return.

But behind the deal Ao was promised to get part of the retail profit from the land development project.

Businessman Tang Kim Man was found guilty of bribery and money laundering and has been sentenced for 12 and half years in jail. However he has fled Macau after the case was discovered and his whereabouts remains uncertain.
