The government was checking whether the “Red Bull” energy drinks being sold in Macau are in the same batch as those found to contain traces of cocaine in Taiwan.

According to the Health Bureau (SS) director Lei Chin Ion, no report of people feeling sick after consuming the energy drinks was received as of yesterday.

Lei said the Economic Services (DSE) was carrying out follow-up work after Taipei found that the Austria-imported “Red Bull” energy drinks contained 0.03 micrograms of illicit drug cocaine.

If needed, Lei said the SS will assist the DSE in collecting samples from the product.

At the same time, the SS director said the DSE was investigating whether the “Red Bull” being sold in Macau shared the same batch number as those with traces of cocaine.

If they are of the same batch, all the products in Macau may be recalled, Lei added.

The energy drinks were still available in local supermarkets, convenience stores and other locations yesterday.

Hong Kong yesterday also took samples of “Red Bull” energy drinks and “Red Bull Cola” for laboratory tests, and recommended suspension of sales of these products.
