Born in 1962 in Macau, Ho Veng On holds a master’s degree in public administration at the University of Macau in 1997. He was the deputy administration and civil service secretary and also the advisor to the administration, education and youth affairs secretary’s office under the Portuguese administration in Macau. He was appointed chief of the Chief Executive’s Office before the founding of the Macau SAR to assist Edmund Ho Hau Wah.

Mr Ho said yesterday that he was “fortunate enough” to have the opportunity to participate in the preparation work for the establishment of the SAR government since 1999, and thus had the first-hand experience in the setting up of various public departments. He hoped to make use of this advantage along with the “strong foundation” the Audit Commission (CA) has built in the past 10 years to continue what the CA has been doing. As for whether or not he will disclose audit reports in the future, he did not give a firm answer but stressed that having a high transparency level is an “international trend”. He also said that if any officials or departments were found to have made any mistakes, the government must handle the matters seriously.
