Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai agreed with the democrats that a public housing waiting period should be formulated to avoid residents from waiting endlessly.

Three directly elected lawmakers and members of the New Macau Association, Ng Kuok Cheong, Au Kam San and Chan Wai Chi, were arranged to meet with the Chief Executive for around one and a half hours yesterday afternoon.

Ng told the MDTimes after the meeting that they mainly talked about democratic political system, increasing construction of public housing units to 40,000 and launching a waiting period, illegal workers, family reunions as well as a professional certification system.

He quoted Mr Chui as saying that he has heard the demands regarding Macau’s political system, and he plans to listen and consult related parties for opinion next.

As for the public housing issue, Ng said Mr Chui had made a clear stance that a waiting period is necessary. The Chief Executive hoped that Secretary Lau Si Io can meet with the three lawmakers as soon as possible to discuss more details.

Ng said they also talked about introducing professional certification systems for social workers, various medical professionals such as nutritionists, speech and occupational therapists, and engineers and planners.

Of which, Ng said the bill from the public works bureau has already handed in to the Legal Affairs Bureau and it hoped to have it enacted within this year.
